Our purpose: the Saurer story

Since our inception, since our iron foundry, our first embroidery machine, our first petrol engine, we have powered creation. First through manpower, then through the power of steam, then diesel and today we power creation through smart solutions, automation, data analytics and digital transformation.

If we did not exist, countless creations would not be possible. All that we do, has one purpose: to enable creations to be made. We make creation possible by helping our customers to process fibres and industrial yarns; creating endless possibilities from textile to tires to e-mobility.

How do we do it? Through an intimate understanding of our industry and our customers’ business needs. This, combined with our technological expertise, creative intelligence and our entrepreneurial spirit allows us to see opportunities others cannot and to drive them to success.

What sets us apart

From the way we design our machines to the way we support our customers, everything we do is geared towards adding value for our customers.

Historical milestones

Over the decades, Saurer has sought opportunities in a range of diverse industries. For a large part of the company's life, engines – first diesel, then petrol – were an important part of its offering. Its vehicles, which the company manufactured for over 80 years, were legendary. From the beginning, we patented many key technologies, among them the diesel injection system. Enterprising members of the founding family were already on the lookout for new opportunities and markets – in a few short decades, Saurer started exporting products beyond Europe. We are inspired by the pioneers who shaped us and are excited about what the future holds. Trace the company's journey from humble iron foundry to global company – with many highlights along the way. Here you can see some of the major developments that shaped us into the dynamic organisation we are today.
