Spin economically every day with BD 8

The BD 8 semi-automatic rotor spinning machine offers solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing the textile industry. Aligned with the E³ philosophy – Energy, Economy and Ergonomics - the BD 8 offers triple added value to spinning mills. Engineered for efficiency, the BD 8 meets the growing demand for reduced energy consumption, increased productivity, optimized use of raw materials and superior yarn quality. Its advanced machine design and features make it the ideal choice for mills looking to increase competitiveness while maintaining cost effectiveness and ease of operation.

For more than 50 years, the BD range of semi-automatic rotor spinning machines has been recognised and established in spinning mills worldwide. They are the benchmark for sustainable spinning and ideal for cost-effective recycling and waste spinning. BD yarns are therefore in line with the current consumer trend towards sustainable textiles.

Energy consumption reduced by up to 10%

The BD 8 enables spinning mills to succeed in competitive markets worldwide. Available in a standard version as well as in an energy-saving model with the innovative Twinsuction technology, the BD 8 offers an outstanding performance with a measurable increase in efficiency (Fig. 1).

Designed to optimise energy use, the BD 8 significantly reduces power consumption for the technology and impurity channels - without compromising yarn quality, even at extended machine lengths. Compared to previous models, the BD 8 achieves up to 10% lower energy consumption, setting a new benchmark for sustainable, high-quality yarn production (Fig. 2).

Two independent suction units at each end of the machine allow the technology vacuum and the impurity vacuum to be controlled separately, thus reducing the vacuum level by approx. 40%. The continuous, undivided suction channels of the BD 8 are the key to a uniform vacuum along the entire length of the machine. Another feature of the BD 8's outstanding energy concept is the highly efficient drive.

Impurities can be blown directly into the exhaust air duct of the spinning mill. Manual cleaning of the sieves is no longer necessary. The new three-chamber filter system enables efficient waste separation. Good fibres, yarn and impurities are collected separately. This is an ideal prerequisite for the individual further processing of materials and the reduction of fibre waste during spinning. A larger waste chamber reduces operator intervention by 50%, as fewer cleaning cycles are required.

Ultimate productivity and efficiency

With fast take-up speeds of up to 230 m/min (Fig. 3) and rotor speeds of up to 120 000 rpm, the BD 8 produces with process reliability and excellent quality in all machine lengths, even with package diameters of 320 mm.
The proven Digipiecing digital piecing technology ensures high piecing reliability even with large packages and thus guarantees outstanding productivity. Digipiecing produces piecings of are outstanding strength and appearance (Fig. 4). The digital Corolab Q2 yarn clearer reliably clears the yarn of thick and thin places and checks whether the piecings meet the required standard. In addition, the Corolab F2 clearer eliminates foreign fibres.

The BD 8 can be equipped with the unique Digital Joint Spinning In (DigiJSI) Technology. Reduced energy availability is a major challenge for many countries today. Limited energy resources often lead to power cuts and interruptions in production. Digital Joint Spinning In Technology enables fast, fully automatic machine start-up for up to 600 spinning positions (Fig. 5). After a power failure, the machine is back in production within 10 minutes. The precise digital control system ensures consistent piecing quality. High production losses due to power failures are a thing of the past.

Efficient use of personnel

Thanks to its ergonomic and user-friendly operating concept, the BD 8 minimises the effort required for personnel to support production. Preventive inspection rounds are hardly necessary, as multi-coloured LED light strips on all sides of the machine and a three-colour LED signal system at all spinning positions clearly indicate the operating status from a distance. This saves operators a considerable amount of time, especially with long machines. They can also intervene more quickly and in a more targeted manner. Consistent production efficiency is guaranteed.

The BD 8 is very easy to set up. The machine can be intuitively operated via a touchscreen interface (Fig. 6). This saves time and reduces operating errors. All the important settings, including those for the Corolab yarn clearer, can be configured centrally on the screen. Operators do not require any special tools to change the spinning components, which makes the process more ergonomic and faster. The important machine components are easily accessible.

Unmatched flexibility in yarn production

The BD 8 impresses customers worldwide with its flexibility in yarn production. With Multilot, customers can spin two different lots simultaneously, allowing quick adaptation to market demands (Fig. 7). Pilotgroup enables the production of test packages on selected positions without interrupting full production. The Fancynation device creates high-quality fancy yarns at high take-up speeds, even on long machines. The BD 8 is the ideal solution for flexible and efficient spinning.

The most reliable doffer on the market

The optional doffer unit boosts the BD 8’s efficiency by enabling automatic package changes without interrupting the spinning process (Fig. 8). This ensures consistent yarn quality throughout the entire package, right up to the yarn reserve. The packages are exchanged for empty tubes in a record time of 10 seconds. The BD 8 - equipped with up to four doffers - offers ample doffing capacity, even for coarse yarns and long machines. Large packages up to 320 mm and 5 kg are easily handled (Fig. 9). Different package lengths are a subject of the past. All packages whose length is within the defined tolerance range are automatically doffed. The yarn reserve of consistent quality is individually adjustable and always within reach. The doffer works as a blowing device when doffing is not required.
