Fabian Becker talks about the exciting remodelling at the Kempten site
In our latest newsletter, we spoke to Fabian Becker from the R&D department. Fabian is responsible for planning the new test area in Kempten and gives us exciting insights into the current remodelling at the Kempten site and the integration into the modern ‘Parkstadt Engelhalde’ area. Find out more about the new test rooms and the central showroom in Krefeld.
Christine:
Hello Fabian, thank you very much for taking the time for this interview. A lot of changes are currently taking place at the Kempten site, especially with the integration into the new ‘Parkstadt Engelhalde’ site. Can you tell us more about this and how it has affected your day-to-day work?
Fabian:
Yes, the changes at the Kempten site are indeed extensive. Many colleagues have moved to new offices within the building. This move has given us the opportunity to organise our working environment more efficiently. The new office space also promotes collaboration and dialogue between the teams.
Christine:
That sounds exciting! Can you tell us more about ‘Parkstadt Engelhalde’ and what role Saurer is playing in it?
Fabian:
Gladly. ‘Parkstadt Engelhalde’ is a new, modern area that is being built on the former Saurer Allma site in the east of Kempten. Where our old factory buildings once stood, a small city within the city is being created with around 430 rental and owner-occupied flats, a local food supplier, a neighbourhood car park, offices and many other facilities. Our offices and also our new test areas will be integrated into this area, which not only offers us a central location, but also an excellent infrastructure. We expect this to improve our access to services and increase our attractiveness as an employer.
Christine:
That sounds like a big step forward. What changes have there been specifically for the R&D department?
Fabian:
There have been some significant changes for our R&D department. Of particular note are the new test rooms, which provide centralised facilities for testing new components and functions. Thanks to close co-operation with local service providers, we also have prototype parts available for testing purposes within 24 hours. In addition, we have old machines for customer support and series machines for R&D and textile technology in the new test rooms. Our engineers are particularly in demand for special customer requirements that cannot be met with our standard range. In cooperation between the electrical, mechanical and textile technology departments, they ensure that our customers receive customised solutions.
Christine:
Are there any other interesting developments that you can tell us about?
Fabian:
Yes, another highlight is our central showroom in Krefeld, which is being expanded. The Tire & Industrial machines will be integrated into the existing showroom there. These were previously located exclusively in Kempten. The expanded showroom will offer us even better opportunities to present our products and innovations centrally. In addition, we now offer a contact point for our customers, whom we cordially invite to visit the Saurer Twisting World.
Christine:
What are the next steps and goals in ‘Parkstadt Engelhalde’?
Fabian:
The next step is to continue planning the new test areas. This will be followed by preparing the infrastructure in the building for our requirements and finally the move. We want to press ahead with our research and development projects and make optimum use of the existing resources and improved infrastructure. In the long term, we want our work to continue to develop innovative solutions and products that offer added value for our customers.
Christine:
Thank you, Fabian, for the exciting insights. We look forward to hearing more about the progress being made in ‘Parkstadt Engelhalde’.
