The production of the Saurer CarpetCabler / CarpetTwister 1.12 - an interview with Dirk Schmitz, Vice President Fulfillment in Krefeld

After presenting our CarpetCabler / CarpetTwister at ITMA 2023 in Milano and informing you in our last newsletter about the innovations as well as the symbiosis of cutting-edge technology and decades of experience, we would like to give you a glimpse into the production side of this new machine. To do that, we conducted an exclusive interview with our Vice President Fulfillment in Germany and are eager to show you the interesting information we gathered.

Q:        What stages does the Saurer CarpetCabler /                                             CarpetTwister 1.12 go through during its production in                               Germany?

A:        In general, what we in Germany do is a so-called final                              assembly which can be separated into a field and a headstock                assembly.
The field assembly consists of assembling and balancing the                    spindles, building the lower as well as the middle frames and                  assembling the pneumatics, thread guiding elements and                        package winding parts. The next step is checking the                                completeness and function of the assembled parts. The                            separate fields are made ready for transport directly                                afterwards.
During headstock assembly, the mechanical and electric units                  are assembled separately – proven parts from the area of                        Man-Made-Fiber are used during this process for this machine                  as well. In the following step, both units are put into operation                and tested together, separated again for transport and finally                being put back together at the customer site.
Of course, we make sure that each step of the process is                          handled with utmost precision.

Q:        What are the most important aspects during the production of               this machine?

A:        The two most important aspects in the production of any of                    our machines are quality and functionality in order to provide                  our customers with what they asked for. One step to make sure              of that is the visual inspection of the necessary parts before                    continuing onto the assembly steps to be undertaken – further                examples include sampling the parts and worker’s quality                        self-control. The final inspection for every new order is                              conducted by the assembly team including the responsible                      manager as well as an employee from quality assurance.

Q:        How much time is needed in order to assemble a Saurer                           CarpetCabler / CarpetTwister 1.12?

A:        Thanks to the experience we were able to accumulate with our               previous models of this machine type – which are well-                             established in the market -, we are able to use our know-how                   accordingly and thus keep the assembly time relatively short.                 Nonetheless, we are inclined to reduce the necessary time even               further in order to be able to provide our customers with the                   desired machines in the needed configuration as swiftly as                       possible.
